Neighborhood and Community collection
This collection contains studies completed by various municipal and state agencies concerning transportation and park issues affecting the Arboretum as well as reports, news clippings, pamphlets, correspondence, proposals, surveys, and studies related to the relationship between the Arnold Arboretum and the communities of and personalities associated with Jamaica Plain, Boston, Roslindale, Brookline, and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Oakes Ames papers
Compiled primarily during his tenure as supervisor of the Arnold Arboretum, the papers of Oakes Ames consist of correspondence, budgets, photographs, and biographical material. Ames served as supervisor of the Arnold Arboretum from 1927-1935; a period marked by the diversity of research and an increase in staff participation in teaching at Harvard.

The Beatrix Farrand papers include biographical material, obituaries, correspondence (1938-1953) and some published works, which were mainly acquired during the years of her employment as a landscape garden consultant (1946-1950) at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Jamaica Plain, MA.

The Koller papers span the years of 1976 to 2000, covering his years as Managing Horticulturist and Supervisor of Living Collections at the Arnold Arboretum. Included are biographical materials, correspondence, memos, information on his professional activities, planting lists, and lecture notes.
Papers of John George Jack, 1861-1949.
Compiled by J. G. Jack, primarily during his tenure at the Arnold arboretum, this collection consists of biographical information and correspondence, as well as publications, images, and research notes. J. G. Jack worked as a lecturer at the Arnold Arboretum and was the first staff member, after Sargent, to visit Asia. The collection covers the time period from 1887-1949, with most materials coming from the 1930’s.
Papers of John S. Burley, 1950- , 1986-1998: Guide.
This collection focuses on the work John S. Burley completed as Research Director of the Southeast Asia Program at the Arnold Arboretum. It contains correspondence, administrative documents, and reports dating between 1986 and 1998.
Papers of Joseph Hers, 1919-1992: Guide.
Papers of William Purdom, 1909-1912: Guide.
Compiled by plant explorer William Purdom, this collection consists primarily of correspondence. There are some photographs and documents relating to expedition expenses. Purdom was dispatched to Asia to collect plants for the first time by C. S. Sargent in 1909. Though he would return to Asia later, this collection is comprised of materials dating from 1909-1912.
Pennsylvania Chestnut Tree Blight Commission Photographs collection, 1913.
This collection documents the effects that chestnut blight, also known as chestnut tree bark disease, had on chestnut trees throughout Pennsylvania. The photos of primarily diseased chestnut trees were taken by the Pennsylvania Chestnut Tree Blight Commission ca. 1912 and 1913.
Peter Shaw Ashton papers
The Peter Shaw Ashton papers document Ashton's work as Director of the Arnold Arboretum, 1978-1987. The collection consists primarily of administrative records including agendas and reports, budgets, and documentation of special projects.
Plant Sale and Giveaway records, 1973, 1978 – .
The collection consists of materials related to the planning and execution of the Arboretum Plant Sale and Giveaway during the thirty-four years of its existence. Materials include correspondence, meeting notes, financial records, and plant descriptions, as well as final drafts of the catalogs produced for each sale. The collection ranges from 1973-2009, with materials from 1998-2000 being particularly replete.

These records include copies of the original deed and correspondence from the park's creation. Also included is some contemporary correspondence regarding the park. In addition, there are recent color photographs of the park taken by Gary Koler, an Arnold Arboretum horticulturalist, and a folder with a small amount of biographical material on James Russell Lowell.

Included are surveys for Bristol and Essex counties and the Arnold Arboretum of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Also included are sixteen sectional survey maps for the southern part of Essex County, Massachusetts and a survey map for the Arnold Arboretum.
Records of the Bussey Institution, 1883-1994
Records of the Bussey Street Gates Project, 1997-2003: Guide.
This collection was created after the completion of the Bussey Street Gates project. The Bussey Street Gates project was a major gate restoration project undertaken by the Arboretum in 2002, affecting primarily the Bussey and Walter Street Gates. The collection is largely correspondence (letters, memoranda, and e-mails), submittals, plans, and contracts. The collection spans 1997-2003.
